Charles A. Washington is a choreographer, performer and musician based in Dresden, Germany. He is the Artistic Director of his project-based dance company called Pinkmetalpetal Productions. At present his primary artistic focus is to try and create spaces and expressions that explore the impossible, the uncertain and the eerie. In 2018 Charles graduated with a MA in choreography, and in 2021 he completed his Miesterklasse research called “We are all a subculture?” at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden


12 pairs of ribs form together with the sternum for the ribcage of the thoracic region. Within those 12 pairs, there are three types of ribs: “true ribs" the first serve ribs are connect the thoracic vertebrae directly to the sternum through their own band of costal Cartilage, Ribs 8,9 and 10, called “false ribs” because they are connected to the sternum only through the cartilage that is connected to the carriage of the seventh rib, and finally ribs 11 and 12 are called the “floating ribs” as they don’t have any cartilage attachment to the sternum at all.&nbsp;

The sternum is a thin tie-shaped bone located along the midline of the anterior side of the thoracic region. The sternum connects directly to the 7 true ribs by thick bands of cartilage, called costal cartilage.&nbsp;

There are 12 pairs of ribs that form together with the sternum that create the ribcage of the thoracic region.

Ribs

The lower limbs are made up of the femur, the largest bone in the body and the only bone in the region also called the femoral region. The femur forms the ball and socket hip joint with the acetabulum, made up of pubis (left and right), ilium (left and right), and ischium or sit bone (left and right). The femur also forms the knee joint with the tibia and the patella. The patella, commonly known as the kneecap, is unique as it is the only bone not present at birth. The patella form in childhood to give support to the knee for walking and crawling.&nbsp;

In the lower leg, there are two bones. The tibia is a much larger and stronger bone than the fibula. It bears almost all the weight of the body. The main purpose of the fibula is to be an attachment point for muscles to help and maintain balance. The tibia and the fibula form the ankle joint with the talus, one of the seven tarsal bones in the foot.&nbsp;

There are seven tarsals at the posterior end of the foot, including the calcaneus (the heel). The tarsals form joints with the five long metatarsals of the foot. Then each of the metatarsals forms a joint with one of the sets of phalanges in the toes. Except for the big toe, which only has two phalanges made up of the&nbsp;proximal&nbsp;phalange and the&nbsp;distal&nbsp;phalange, each toe has three phalanges made up of the&nbsp;proximal&nbsp;phalange, the middle phalange and the&nbsp;distal&nbsp;phalange.

The Auditory Ossicles comprises three of the smallest bones in the body the malleus, incus and stapes. They are located in a small cavity in the temporal bone and transmit and amplify sound from the eardrum to the inner ear.

In the Spine, the Vertebral column or the Spinal Column stretching down the midline of the trunk from the base of the skull to the coccyx are 26 vertebrae. 24 are separate vertebrae that are interspaced with cartilage, and additionally, the sacrum and the coccyx.

Each vertebra is named after the letter of their reign and a number to indicate the position it is situated along the inferior axis.&nbsp;

The 7 vertebrae in the neck form the cervical region of the spine. They offer the most amount of movement of all the vertebrae and are the thinnest and most delicate. C1 is the first vertebra that supports the skull. It is also named “atlas” after the greek titan that held the world on his shoulders. C2, the second cervical vertebra, is also known as the “axis” as it facilitates rotational left and right movement for the skull and atlas. C3 is at the same level as the Hyoid bone.&nbsp;

The 12 vertebrae in the chest region form joints with a pair of ribs in the spine’s thoracic region. They are larger and stronger than the Cervical vertebra but offer less mobility.&nbsp;

The 5 vertebrae in the lower back form the lumbar region of the spine. They are larger than the thoracic vertebra but offer more mobility as they are not connected to any ribs.

Contains the Sacrum, a single bone in an adult skeleton that is formed by the suture of 5 smaller vertebrae during adolescence. The&nbsp;sacrum&nbsp;is a flattish, triangular bone found in the lower back, which connects through a strong joint called the&nbsp;sacroiliac joint&nbsp;or the&nbsp;SI joint (SIJ)&nbsp;to the ilium bones of the pelvis.

Contains only the coccyx, a single bone that is formed of the fusion of 4 tiny vertebrae during adolescence. Often referred to or know as the tailbone as this region is homologous to the tail of animals that have tails. In sitting the coccus bone bears our body weight. It is the attachment point for many muscles of the pelvic and gluteal region.&nbsp;

Vertebre

The pelvis also called the bony pelvis or the pelvic girdle, is a basin-shaped complex of bones. It connects the trunk of the body to the legs, supports the balance of the trunk, and contains and supports the intestines, the urinary bladder, and the internal sex organs.&nbsp;

The pair of bones that form the pelvic girdle are paired hipbones that are connected at the anterior pubic symphysis and the posterior sacroiliac joint with the sacrum; each is made up of three bones - the ilium that is lateral to the sternum and gives the width of the hips; the ischium, which sits inferior to the ilium and in the posterior, the ischium or 'sit' bones are where the weight falls while sitting; In the anterior medial to the ischium and ilium is the pubic bone. In early adulthood, each pair of three bones form together to create the cup-shaped socket of the hip joint for the head of the femur.

The Osteopathic perspective suggests that there are movements between the 21 bones. As both vascular and nerve supplies have been observed, it suggests living cellular tissue between the cranial bones. This cellular tissue is a form of connective tissue, which behaves according to the unique characteristics of the tissue type. It stiffens under abrupt loads, and it becomes increasingly playable under constant low amplitude loading, which would suggest movement.&nbsp;

Skull

The hyoid bone is a floating bone. It is the only bone in the body that does not form a joint with any other bone. A small U-shaped bone located at the level of the third cervical vertebra C3 found just inferior to the mandible. The hyoids’ function is to help hold the trachea open while inhaling and form a bony connection for many muscles contributing to mastication, swallowing the tongue muscles. From the temporal bone, ligaments and muscles grow down and connect to the hyoid bone, suspending it in the skull. Likewise, the organ system is suspended from the Hyoid.

Hyoid

Consists of the Upper arm, the humerus bone forms the ball and socket joint of the shoulder with the clavicle and the scapula, and it also forms the elbow joint with the lower arm bones.&nbsp;

The lower arm or the forearm consists of the radius and the ulna. The ulna, which is on the medial side of the forearm, forms a hinge joint with the humerus at the elbow. The radius gives the possibility for the forearm and hand to turn over at the wrist joint.

The lower arm bones form the wrist joints with the carpals, eight small bones that give flexibility to the wrist. The carpels connect to the five metacarpals and connect to each of the fingers. The bones in the fingers and thumbs are called phalanges, and apart from the thumb, which only has two bones, each finger has three. The thumb is made up of the proximal phalange and the distal phalange. The finger is made up of the proximal phalange, the middle phalange and the distal phalange.

The upper limbs consist of the Upper arm, the humerus bone forms the ball and socket joint of the shoulder with the clavicle and the scapula, and it also forms the elbow joint with the lower arm bones. 

Upper limbs

The skeletal system includes all of the bones and joints in the body. Babies start out with 270 bones some of these bones fuse together during growth. The adult body is made up of around 206 individual bones, with 80 in the axial skeleton and 126  in the appendicular skeleton.
